UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER

Thus, what I advocate is a form of unconditional surrender of control of what happens in these fifty minute sessions in “Heavenly Therapy.” I ask counselees to practice surrendering in the sessions that we have together.  In other words, therapy becomes a classroom where those in therapy, after they develop their relationship with me, the counselor, learn how to listen to God. Thus I may pray with people during our sessions and ask that in some way God touch what we do in the office at that very time. Now, that is very hard to do with people who are so used to coming to therapy to tell the counselor what their problems are.  It is also very hard for a therapist to do who is so accustomed to playing God and offering intellectual solutions to problems of the heart. 

I teach methods of Contemplative Prayer.  I pray in tongues if that seems appropriate. I stop sessions and ask people if they will invite Jesus into the very situation they are describing.  Many times therapy becomes a way of healing internalized hurts from childhood.  As the person describes what happened to him/her in childhood, I stop them and ask them if they will allow Jesus with the assent of the Father to release their Mutual Love – The Most Holy Spirit into the situation. 

Thus we stop and pray and listen.  We both surrender. Sometimes we are led to scripture. Sometimes a word is spoken in our hearts. Sometimes we are led to music. Sometimes we are led to inner silence.  Whatever happens there are those special moments when, in silence, we both experience Peace in our hearts.  We know we are experiencing the fruits of attempting unconditional surrender to the presence of God. 

I then ask the person to try this on his/her own during the week and report back what happens. Some do what I ask.  Others do not.  Some never return. Yet, the message is out there for all to explore on their own when they feel ready to do so.  The way to be healed is to open your heart through prayer – no matter what that prayer may be – to the Love that is God. 

My job as a therapist is over.  I then turn the “therapy” back over to God. He does as He wishes in each client in accord with their willingness to try to practice unconditional surrender. 

Now don’t get me wrong.  I am trained in Freudian techniques.  I am trained as a Rogerian Counselor.  I am trained in Cognitive Restructuring.  I am an expert at Behavior Modification since I ran an agency for Autistic children and adults.  I certainly use those skills in whatever mode necessary to open people to feel free enough to share their difficulties in therapeutic sessions. Those that learn to trust me and are of a spiritual bent are moved to go beyond these usual psychological tricks into a spiritual exploration of inner silence as a means of fostering internal unconditional surrender as their technique for being in Therapy with God outside of my weekly office hours.

A MEDITATION WRITTEN WHILE IN SURRENDER

Somehow just being with Me quietly in the early morning gives your day in temporary a healthy start. It is hard for you to explain why this is so. It just is. You know it has something to do with My True Presence in the Eucharist. However, you cannot explain what happens in you as you start your day.

That is the way it is for all My friends who set aside time to come to be with Me quietly each day. They, like you, make room for Me in their heart. I do the same in them as I do in you. I come alive in the Wonder that is My Love within their being. I touch them and you with My Love. Then, without any warning, they are changed from within their being.

The exchange of temporary time for a touch of forever is something you will never understand. It just is! That’s the definition of Forever. It just is!

When you freely chase to set aside time to just be with Me daily, you actively participate in your transition from temporary to forever. You will this transition to occur and it does occur at My Will in you. Thus We touch in the quiet of this Adoration Chapel Others are here with you. They make the same choice that you make. They put Me first in their day. They set aside time to be in Forever with Me quietly and gently daily. What joy you all give Me as you exercise your free will by choosing to just be with Me
daily.

I touch each of you in the ways most befitting your personality. I know you intimately. After all, I am your Creator. I become your reason to live. I allow you access to My True Presence in Love Eternal within you just because you freely choose to spend some temporary time with Me daily.

You know that what I say is true. You do not truly know why I do as I do. You just know I choose to free you from the prison of temporary by giving you internal experiences of My Forever in you. That is My Saving Love at work in you. That is My Salvation taking over in you.

We meet in our mutually created Sacred Space. It is morning in your time. It is forever with Me in My World. Your Temporary melds gently into My Forever as My Love supersedes your temporary needs and concerns. I become your object of the moment so to speak. You freely choose to focus your entire being on the Wonder of My Forever in you. I, in turn, freely choose to rise to your awareness. That’s Love Eternal in Action within your temporary being.

What does this mean? Why does this happen? You really do not know. You truly do not care. You are just so happy that you are blessed by My True Presence in you.

My friends! This is the essence of Our Relationship in Love Eternal. You pursue the Love you know I freely share even though you do not fully understand it. You only know that you hunger and thirst for more of it. Thus, just be with Me quietly. Have a Feast in My Loving True Presence in you. Know that I bless what you do. Know that My Love smiles on you.

I GIVE YOU ALL YOU NEED

I give you My Love so that you can give it away. I flow through you like a river that flows downstream. Those in need line the banks of My River. They wait for My Love to refresh their being. Sometimes My Love flows through you. Other times you wait on the river bank. You know that whatever role you live that My Love will touch you somehow. That's how things are when you let My Love lead you. Sometimes I fill you up so much that you just overflow naturally. Other times you run on empty.

I know you prefer the former state to the latter state. However you know that you do not control the ebb and flow of My Love within you. I do. The only thing you control is your openness to My Love. You freely choose to follow Me. That's all I need you to do. Everything else flows from Me.

You just choose to be open to Me. I choose to do all the
rest. It doesn’t matter to Me if you are running on full or on empty. I give you more than you need. Thus, trust My
Love. Receive it freely. Give it away freely. It is an ever present gift from Me. It is the New Life I share in each friend intimately.
